American Corner - Chittagong

The American Corner starts providing services at IUB Chittagong Campus, which is an Information Resource Center of the US Embassy, Dhaka. It provides information services to the Chittagong community on American history, culture society, literature, art, government, politics, education, commercial opportunities and many other topics.

The American Corner Chittagong is open to all visitors. In order to use the resources and facilities of the Corner, users must purchase a membership

Classification System

Books are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System and arranged on the shelves in numerical order. Bibliographies and translations are shelved separately.

Collection

The American Corner Chittagong is equipped with the latest and most accurate information available from print and electronic media. A collection of several volumes of reference books, print periodicals, CD, VCD and audio & video cassettes are available for use. Journals are - Art in America, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Futurist, Rolling Stone, Ms., NY Review of Books etc. The American Corner also subscribes to the International Herald Tribune.

Reference Service

The reference collection in the Corner includes dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, almanacs, periodicals and other books held especially for consultation. Reference books on TOEFL, GRE, SAT guides for admission to colleges and universities in the USA is also available.

The reference collection is best used in person, but our professional staff does answer queries via telephone, e-mail, fax or mail.

Internet Search

To provide faster and more comprehensive service to its patrons, the American Corner provides services through electronic media like the Internet and CD-ROM. Patrons can use these research tools on an Corner's computer. The Corner offers the use of the Internet for research on America and related subjects. Charges a nominal Tk. 20.00 per 30 minutes for this service to cover the cost of the Internet connection. Prinouts may be made at a cost of TK. 2.00 per page.

The American Corner Chittagong is open to all for visit but to use resource and facilities of the Corner, membership is needed.

Yearly Membership Fee:
Taka 200.00

Photocopying Service :
Letter size-Taka 1.50, Legal size- Taka 2.00
Photocopying service is available on a restricted basis to patrons who visit the corner.

10.30 am to 4.30 pm, Sunday through Thursday
