Library Attachment Programme
There is a provision for training for outsiders in the IUB
Library. In this age of Information Technology and Communication any
Library or Information personnel can get an opportunity to enrich
himself/herself with need based skill and knowledge through this training
programme. This training programme can be a gateway for young library or
information personnel as well as for the experienced. The IUB Library
Attachment Training Programme is divided into following four
modules:
Module 1: Work Tour in the IUB Library
Module 2: Bibliographic Information Processing in the IUB
Library
Module 3: Charging-Discharging Information Processing in the
IUB Library
Module 4: Web Page
Developing
Interested person may contact with either IUB
Library or
Extension and Continuing Education Centre (ECEC), 58 Baridhara, Dhaka to
get his or her schedule for training.

Curriculum
Module 1: Work Tour in the IUB Library
Objectives
This short tour programme
facilitates one to know the technologies of the library organization.
Special emphasis is given for familiarizing IT use in
libraries.
Procedure
Merely institutional training is not enough for a full
workable library or information personnel. Neo personnel need some
attachment with the libraries or resource centres to understand the real
life problems. If one spare some times in the different section of a
library then he or she will be confident in developing his or her library
or resource centre. This module is basically an orientation programme for
neo librarians or information officers. Emphasis is given for practical
work in the different section of the IUB Library.
Duration
This is the eight hour programme spread out in four
days.
Fees
An
interested participant needs to pay Tk.1,200/=(Taka One Thousand Two
Hundred only) in advance for confirming his or her participation in Module
1 IUB Library Attachment Programme.
Contents
Day 1: Orientation about IUB Library resources
and services -- Working with information material processing, i.e.,
preparing book cards, preparing processing slips, inputting data into
computer etc.
Day 2: Working with information material
processing -- Helping the circulation officers: book issue, book return,
preparing defaulter lists etc.
Day 3: Preparing
bibliographies -- Searching IUB Library database -- Developing a search
strategy -- Saving and printing a searched item etc.
Day
4: Work with the acquisition section of the library -- preparing
requisition slips, listing books for order, placing orders, receiving
books, accessioning, pasting book pockets, date due slips, preparing new
arrival lists and current contents etc.

Module 2: Bibliographic Information
Processing in the IUB Library
Objectives
Being the IUB Library is using CDS/ISIS for bibliographic
information processing, this training will facilitate one to startup ones
work with the CDS/ISIS. The person who will complete this 8 days programme
he/she should be able to design a database, edit the database, insert new
fields in the database, prepare a worksheet for inputting data, add new
field(s) in the existing work sheet, keep oneself alert about the
subfields, prepare simple formats as per one’s need, use different formats
for browsing and printing purposes, search the database using some simple
techniques of CDS/ISIS, export and import data to and from CDS/ISIS
databases.
Procedure
There will be no formal classes for training. The trainee
will work with a computer all most all the time and the IUB Library
personnel will help him or her every step. Through practical work one will
make oneself familiar with software for library catalogue in the IUB
Library.
Duration
Module 2 attachment training will be for 18 hours generally
spreading into nine days. Timing: 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
Fees
For
using IUB resources the authority will charge Tk.7,200/= (Taka Seven
Thousand Two Hundred only) for eighteen hours programme. If the schedule
hours are changed as per requirement of the participant then the fees may
increase or decrease accordingly.

Day 1: Designing Basics: Concept of database: data,
fields, records, databases -- Determining the fields for a database for
the library books: Field Names, Type of fields, determining delimiters for
each field. -- Designing database with CDS/ISIS: use of DOS version and
use of Windows version.
Day 2-4: Defining Database with
CDS/ISIS: Field Definition Table (FDT) -- Worksheet -- Formatting for data
display -- Selecting fields and subfields for search -- Building Field
Select Table -- Data inputting.
Day 5-6: Searching:
Browsing data using deferent formats -- Search techniques: Single term
search, truncation search and combinational search -- building search
strategies -- Saving search result.
Day 7: Printing:
Random printing -- Printing save files -- Convert CDS/ISIS data into Word
document -- Customizing Print worksheet.
Day 8:
Export/Import: Exporting data to another CDS/ISIS database -- Importing
data from another CDS/ISIS database -- Preparing text files for exporting
CDS/ISIS data to another system.
Day 9: Building Digital
Library with WinISIS.

Module 3: Charging-Discharging Information
Processing in the IUB Library
Objectives
The Objective of the module 3 attachment programme is to
help one for computerizing the circulation section of a
library.
Procedure
The trainee is guided for designing a database with the
popular software MS Access for the circulation section of a library. The
trainee will pass almost all the time with the computers and expert
guidance is provided by IUB.
Duration
Ten hours programme spread out in five days. Timing: 3.30 pm
to 5.30 pm.
Fees
An interested participant should pay in advance
Tk.2,500/=(Taka Two Thousand Five Hundred only) for Module 3 of IUB
Library attachment programme.

Module 4: Web Page
Developing
Objectives
Today the Web is quickly becoming the communication medium
of choice for millions of people. The Web is a massive resource of
information to which anyone can connect and from which anyone can receive.
The objective of this module is to developing web pages for making a
library or information personnel equipped with web related activities.
Procedure
The trainee is guided for developing web pages using HTML,
MS FrontPage and Adobe Photoshop. The trainee will pass almost all the
time with the computers and expert guidance is provided by
IUB.
Duration
Ten hours programme spread out in five days. Timing: 3.30 pm
to 5.30 pm.
Fees
An
interested participant should pay in advance Tk.1,500/=(One Thousand Five
Hundred Taka only) for Module 4 of IUB Library attachment
programme.
